WORKSHOP with Amy Reed
Calling all history buffs, philosophy nerds, teachers of yoga & curious minds! Do you know where the practices of yoga come from?
Have you wondered about the relationship between modern yoga postures and yoga history and philosophy? Is yoga a religion, and what is its relationship to Hinduism? Is there one, authentic yoga? How did colonialism influence modern yoga? How do you teach modern yoga in a way that is culturally respectful and historically accurate?
In this workshop we’ll center ourselves in the 5000+ year history of the Yoga Tradition. We’ll take broad strokes and examine fine-grained nuances of yoga philosophy through the ages. We’ll read primary source texts to illuminate the different flavors of yoga over time. And we’ll consider what it means to be a westerner teaching and practicing yoga in the modern era. You will gain an expanded understanding of the richness and complexity of the Yoga tradition, which in turn, will inform your personal practice of yoga.
