The intention of this program is to encourage a deepening of our meditation practice and, within the refuge of sangha (spiritual community), to share insights and support for living with wisdom and compassion. We'll begin each of our 16 meetings with a half-hour of meditation followed by an investigation of Listening to the Heart - A Contemplative Journey to Engaged Buddhism by Kittisaro and Thanissara. This engaging guide to practice is also an account of the extraordinary spiritual journeys of two of the most respected teachers in the Theravadan Buddhist tradition. In this book, Kittisaro and Thanissara translate the wisdom gained through years of intense monastic discipline and their transition back to modern western culture into a clear yet nuanced interpretation of the Buddha's teachings. Side by side with their touching personal stories are deep teachings on meditation and spiritual practice not often found in an easily readable book such as this.
"This book is luminous in clarity and depth. Let these teachings turn you toward the jewel of your own awakening heart."--Tara Brach
In keeping with the tradition of Theravadan Buddhism, the teachings will be freely offered. Participants are welcome to make a donation (dana) of any amount for the instruction.
